Liven up Your Child’s Birthday Party with Dry Ice

Looking to make your little one’s big day a little extra magical? Try using dry ice to bring two popular kids’ party themes to life. Whether you’re looking to create a winter wonderland or a wizarding world, these DIY decorations can help transport your kids to the world of their favorite movies—thanks to Penguin Brand Dry Ice® and their loving parents.

Let it go with a dry ice snow floor

If your young one is ravenous for that cold, snowy animated movie (you know the one), use dry ice to lay the groundwork for your winter wonderland.

What you’ll need:
  • 4 one-gallon buckets or similar containers
  • Hot water
  • Two to three pounds of Penguin Brand Dry Ice, available at a store near you
  • Gloves
  • Hammer/ice pick
  • Towel
How to do it:
  1. While wearing gloves, wrap the dry ice in a towel and use the hammer or ice pick to break the dry ice into golf ball-sized chunks.
  2. Drop the chunks into buckets of hot water around your house or party area.

This will create a foggy, snow-like effect across the floor, getting everyone in the winter spirit regardless of the time of year. But no matter how badly the kids want to build a snowman, don’t let them touch the dry ice—safe usage is critical.

Conjure up some fun with a dry ice cauldron

Maybe your child’s birthday is close to Halloween. Maybe they love that wildly popular film and book series about a trademark-protected boy wizard. Heck, maybe your kid just likes spooky stuff. Either way, having a foggy cauldron around could vastly improve your eerie party theme with minimal effort.

What you’ll need:
  • Large plastic or metal cauldron
  • Plastic or metal container small enough to fit inside the cauldron
  • One to two gallons of hot water
  • Two to three pounds of Penguin Brand Dry Ice, available at a store near you
  • Gloves
  • Hammer/ice pick
  • Towel
How to do it:
  1. Fill the container with hot water and place inside the cauldron.
  2. While wearing gloves, wrap the dry ice in a towel and use the hammer or ice pick to break the dry ice into golf ball-sized chunks.
  3. Place the dry ice into the water-filled container.

Squeeze a few drops of food coloring to give your potion a little something extra, or try augmenting the presentation with dramatic lighting. Whatever you do, be sure to do it safely by always referencing our safe handling guide. Enjoy the magic!
