This spooky season, making your own fog-filled Jack-O’-Lantern is scary easy!

Bring your “smoking” pumpkin Jack-O’-Lantern to life this Halloween with easy-to-create, long-lasting dry ice fog effects. Not only will your spooky pumpkin pal be the talk of the town, but this easy activity is fun for all families!

Watch the video tutorial below or follow the directions to try this activity out for yourself.

What You Need to Create Your Jack-O’-Lantern:

  • Pumpkin
  • Protective gloves
  • Tongs
  • One cup of warm water
  • Dry ice (cubed)

Step 1: Carve your pumpkin with your desired face or spooky design. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your carving!

Step 2: Wearing protective gloves, wrap your dry ice in a towel and gently hammer the dry ice block to break it into cubes with a hammer. This will make it easier to place the dry ice inside your pumpkin later.

Step 3: Using tongs, carefully place a few dry ice cubes into your pumpkin. During this step, you have the option to place your dry ice on a plate or freezer-safe dish to prevent water from sitting in the bottom of your pumpkin.

Step 4: Carefully pour warm water over the dry ice cubes. You should begin to see fog coming from inside the pumpkin.

Step 5: Sit back, relax and enjoy the spooky fog effects coming from your Jack-O’-Lantern! For more fun, try turning off the lights and placing lights around your pumpkin for an extra creepy effect!

Note: If you notice less fog coming from your pumpkin after a few minutes, you may need to add additional dry ice or pour in more warm water.

Safety Notes:

Parental supervision is required.

Do not aim the cup at any humans or animals.

Always use gloves and tongs when handling dry ice.
